Text Karmel Schreyer
HAVE you ever sat in your classroom gazing out the window and wishing you were a world away? There really is such a place - a place where you can learn, but at the same time feel inspired by the beauty of the natural world. It is called the Green School, and you can find it in Bali, Indonesia, arguably one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
Eighty percent of Green School students come from around the world, while 20 percent are local Balinese children. Besides offering regular school subjects and a quality creative arts programme, the school naturally has a strong green studies component. So, along with the "three Rs" (reading, writing and 'rithmetic) a normal day's activities could also include making chocolate right from the cocoa pod, Balinese batik textile printing or mastering the art of Indonesian shadow puppetry.
