THE ASIAN YOUTH GAMES 2009
Singapore is set to make history as the first country to host the games.

The Asian Youth Games 2009 is the first multi-sport event of its kind and Singapore has been appointed to host this inaugural event. More than 1,300 athletes aged between 14 and 17 years old are expected to participate in nine sporting events over nine days from 29 June to 7 July. Singapore is also due to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2010, so this will be a good opportunity for the various sports associations to fine-tune their plans for this major event.

Singapore was chosen for a variety of reasons. The strong governmental support is essential for preparing for the games at such short notice. With just a year to prepare for such a big event, there is a race against time to put things in place. Such a grand plan requires support on a national scale.
