Special Events Around The World And Dates To Remember

WORLD HEALTH DAY
World Health Day was created by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to draw attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. This year, the theme is “Health Facilities in Emergencies”. What you can do is find out where the nearest hospital is and make sure you have the emergency numbers and your family doctor’s contact handy. Discuss what you would do in the event of an emergency with your family, so that you will always be prepared.

EARTH DAY
The first Earth Day was conceived in 1970, nearly four decades ago. As people became more aware of what was being done to the environment, they lodged a mass protest against oil spills, toxic dumps, pesticides, and the loss and extinction of wildlife. The first Earth Day was significant because they enlisted the support of politicians and tycoons. From 1990, Earth Day went global, reaching out to more than 184 countries and millions of people.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
World Environment Day is held each year to stimulate worldwide awareness and to enhance political support and action. Established in 1972, the main agenda is to give environmental issues a human face and to empower people to take action. Mexico will host the International 2009 World Environment Day celebrations. The theme for 2009 is “Your Planet Needs You – UNite to combat climate change”.
