Come and visit the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai and you would be helping to protect an endangered species.

About 80 kilometres north of Chiang Mai in the beautiful and luscious Mae Tang Valley is a peaceful and tranquil sanctuary for elephants called the Elephant Nature Park. It was formed in 1995 by a brave and committed lady, Sangduen “Lek” Chailert, who offers refuge to old, injured and abused elephants and houses them in what can be best described as an elephant retirement home. She has championed the cause of the Asian elephant for many decades.

Playful and intelligent, otters are becoming a rare sight these days.

Otters are important to river systems because their presence shows that the water quality is still very good. They are semi-aquatic animals, which means as land animals, they also spend a good deal of time in the water.
