Often mistaken for mermaids by sailors and fisherman, they look nothing like the pretty versions in the cartoons.
Dugongs belong to the Sirenia family and are actually related to
the elephant! There are four other species in this family apart from the
dugong – the Steller’s sea cow and three types of manatees (they are
like dugongs, but have a paddle-shaped tail).

Pulau ubin, a five-minute boat ride from Changi Village jetty,
is probably the last, unspoilt natural island in Singapore. On this
sleepy laidback island is a unique eco-friendly house called the Ubin
Green House.
