MANTA MANIA
Cousins of sharks, the majestic manta ray continues to fascinate scientists and scuba diVers.
Spotting a Manta ray gliding gracefully through the water is certainly a heart-stopping moment – especially if these largest of rays swoops in next to you, their eyes holding you in their gaze. Like gigantic birds flying across the large expanse of ocean and flapping their triangular shaped “wings”, manta rays have captured the hearts and imaginations of scuba divers and scientists all over the world because so little is known of these majestic creatures.

The word ’manta’ comes from the Spanish word for cloak as they look like animated blankets. |
