Thanks to the Blair Memorial Trust, students
from East Timor can hope for a bett er future.
Three years ago, Berta Antonieta Pereira’s
home in East Timor burned down when ethnic
fighting broke out. She had to live in a camp
for refugees with her parents, three brothers
and sisters. Her father had also lost his job, so
Berta started teaching mathematics to younger
children, to help make extra money for her
family. On top of that she still had to go to
school!
