Camping Pointers
EXPERIENCE THE GREAT OUTDOORS WITH
SOME GREAT ADVICE!
text GRANT PEREIRA
When I was a teenager, the school holidays only meant one thing for
me and my friends – camping! I found there are three things that assure
a successful camping trip: planning, planning and more planning!
1. WEATHER
Weather plays a major part in your planning,
and camping during the dry season is more
enjoyable. Do your research to find out when
the best time is. If you’re camping in the jungle
near a river or stream during the dry season,
your chances of seeing wild animals are better
as they have to come down to a water source
to drink.
Be careful, however, if you’re camping near
a large river. Make sure your campsite is at
least 100 metres from the river and on higher
ground as a flash flood or heavy rain can
wash your tent and equipment away.
