Tropical Fruit Paradise

RAMBUTAN
Quite a strange looking fruit, the rambutan got
its name from the hairy exterior that looks like
hair – “Rambut” in Malay or Indonesian.
Today, the rambutan tree is mostly grafted.
This means that it is not produced from seeds
but created from different rambutans selected
for their desirable qualities.
LYCHEE
This luscious red fruit with its sweet juicy taste
comes from a tropical fruit tree. Just think
of the lychee as a rambutan without the soft
spines on the rind. Today it is primarily found
in China, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Taiwan,
Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico and
the Philippines.
JACKFRUIT
The jackfruit is usually quite big and
prickly on the outside. Once you
crack it open, you will find the
yellow, fleshy parts. The jackfruit
is the largest tree-borne fruit
in the world and there may
be as much as 100 seeds in a
single jackfruit! It takes about
three to eight months to mature
and usually changes colour from
light green to yellowish-brown.
