Save Nemo and His Friends! EVERY YEAR, MORE THAN
18 MILLION FISH ARE
TAKEN FROM CORAL REEFS
FOR THE AQUARIUM TRADE!
HOW CAN YOU HELP? text and photos JAKI TEO
Colourful reef fish such as Finding Nemo
stars Dory (Regal Blue Tang) and Nemo
(Orange Clownfish) are great to look at, but
their popularity may be hurting their friends
and marine habitats worldwide.
These fish are often collected from their coral
reef homes by untrained village fishermen who
break off pieces of coral and squirt poisonous
cyanide into the openings. As a result, a large
percentage of reef fish die from poisoning and
stress before even reaching a pet store!
