Special 3D Green Edition Out Now!

On the heels of World Environment Day, World Oceans Day and a global push to live green, it was quite a difficult task to pick the stories to go into the 64 pages of the magazine. Take a peek at the issue right here on the AGJ website!

I always love reading about the animals first, but be sure to read "Rubbish Island" and "Biology Without Borders" to learn how our activities are harming the environment. Read about one man who has found an ingenious way to recycle in "Elephant Poo... to Paper!", and learn how you can go green with just a click of the mouse.

We're also excited to present a very special 3D edition of AGJ! We've all worked very hard to put this issue together, so we hope you enjoy the alternative look. A pair of free 3D glasses is included in the print edition of the issue, so grab them and experience AGJ like you've never seen it before!

I hope this Green Edition will inspire you to live green. Every small step counts and if you spread the message to your friends and family, more people will be interested in doing their part to save the world - for the animals, and for us, too.

Till the next issue... happy reading!

Winnie Leung

Asia Celebrates the Environment and Oceans

PEOPLE everywhere celebrated World Environment Day (WED) on June 5 and World Oceans Day (WOD) on June 8. These are just a few of the activities that happened around the region - hopefully they will inspire you to work toward a cleaner, greener environment (and bluer ocean!).

In Azerbaijan (a country straddling Eastern Europe and Western Asia), thousands of people took part in a tree planting event in the capital city of Baku to celebrate WED. The president of Azerbaijan even declared 2010 the Year of the Environment for Green Earth.

The United Nations launched a new website, www.greeningtheblue.org, to commemorate WED 2010.

For WOD, members of the Boy Scouts and the Leido Outdoor Club in Calapan City, Philippines gathered to clean the coastal area of protected mangroves.

To celebrate WOD, a group of scuba divers and some of Thailand's most famous underwater photographers helped return baby clownfish to their home reefs.
